Statement by BikeSD onCity of San Diego’s Adopted Fiscal Year (FY) 2025 Budget
As we enter the new fiscal year here in San Diego, we would like to thank all of the advocates that continue to demand safer streets, cleaner air, and a more livable San Diego.
While we did not get everything we’d like to see, notably:
Adams Avenue Complete Streets (Proposed by Council President Elo-Rivera)
El Cajon Permanent and Extended Rapid Transit Lines (Proposed by Council President Elo-Rivera
El Cajon Blvd, Park Blvd, and Normal Street Intersection evaluation (Proposed by Councilmember Whitburn)
We are excited for those things that did make it, including:
$6.5 million for the University Avenue Bikeway
$6.4 million for the Normal Street Promenade
$1.1 million for the Safe and Sustainable Transportation All Ages and Abilities Team
$508,745 for traffic calming across the city
$500,000 for the University Avenue Mobility Project
$272,840 for Bicycle Facilities across the city
$50,000 for the Coastal Rail Trail
Finally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the City Council and Mayor for their crucial, last-minute decision to allocate funding in the City of San Diego FY25 budget to address the fatal 15 intersections, including an additional $785,000 to ensure all fifteen can be addressed. This commitment to enhancing road safety is a significant step towards protecting our community and demonstrates a profound understanding of the importance of proactive measures in preventing accidents and saving lives.
We will monitor these projects and continue to demand a safer, more bikable, and livable San Diego for all.
