News and links from beyond San Diego

Here are a few items of interest from beyond San Diego that caught my eye.

  • The California Bicycle Coalition, our statewide bike advocacy group based in Sacramento, is celebrating National Bike month with an auction that will help fund much of the work they do. This includes getting the three foot bill passed which is on its way to the State Assembly after getting through the State Senate (27-6)
  • In Portland, everyone bikes.
  • California Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg wrote a takedown to one of the loudest critics of the California Sustainable Communities and Climate Protection Act (SB 375) – a document that serves as a model blueprint for regions around the state in how to best re-design our communities to tackle environmental and transportation issues that we currently face.
  • If you’ve ever wanted to read confessionals from recovering Traffic Engineers who have finally seen the light, look no further than this piece from Charles Marohn, a Professional Engineer who is licensed in the State of Minnesota.
  • New York City Councilmember Brad Lander talks about how getting people out of cars and carving out safe places for bicycle riders has reduced child fatalities and improved life in the city for all its residents. This sheds light on why New York City continues to be a city that attracts scores of visitors and new residents on a daily basis.
