Kathy Keehan Steps Down from the SDCBC

Kathy Keehan, the Executive Director for the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition for more than a decade, has decided to leave the Coalition. I’ve posted her farewell message below:

As some of you may have heard by now, I am stepping down as executive director of the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition. I have been offered a job with the Air Pollution Control District, and after a lot of thought I’ve decided to accept it.

The past eleven years have been so fulfilling and rewarding. I’m very proud of our work together to help bicycling in the San Diego region and to grow and strengthen the Coalition from a small dedicated group to a strong professional organization.

Although I’m leaving the Coalition executive director position, I’m not planning to leave bicycle advocacy. I’m simply changing my role. I’m not sure exactly what that new role will be yet, but I’m excited to find out.

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve the Coalition and the bicyclists of the San Diego region. Thank you for the help, support, and encouragement you have given me as we worked together. No one could ask for more dedicated, enthusiastic, and energetic friends and compatriots. I hope you will continue that support for whomever steps into this position moving forward.

Thank you again for allowing me to take this journey with you. I look forward to seeing you on the road!

Sincerely,
Kathy Keehan

The Coalition Board has launched a project to immediately locate and hire the best qualified person to fill the vacant position of Executive Director. This presents a golden opportunity for a qualified person to make a difference in the San Diego County cycling community. If that person is you or one of your friends, step up to the mark and apply for the position. Here is the link to the Job Announcement and how to apply.

In the meantime, the current spokesperson for the SDCBC, Jim Baross, will serve as the interim Executive Director.

I wish Kathy the very best in her future endeavors and hope that the new Executive Director will be just as good of advocate as Kathy has been.
