Saturday, April 13 – Ride for Safe Lanes on 30th Street

RIDE: Safe Lanes on 30th Street

The Safe Lanes on 30th Ride will start at Bird Park (Upas and 28th St.) at 11 AM and end back at the same spot for ice cream. We believe that streets should be for people, not just for cars. On streets designed for people, bike riders of all ages and abilities have safe places to ride that are physically protected from cars, and pedestrians can cross the street comfortably and safely through intersections designed with their needs in mind. We envision a network of protected bike lanes so that anyone can hop on a bike, without fear, and safely travel to work or to school, shop at local businesses, or get some exercise.

Recently, the city proposed creating new bike lanes on 30th Street and we’re riding to make a bold statement that any new lanes along this critical corridor must be physically protected. Today, safe lanes on 30th; tomorrow, safe lanes for all of San Diego.

If we have enough volunteers, we will create a “people-protected bike lane” for a short stretch. Contact talk@bikesd.org to help create a people-protected lane.
