Bicycle Riding Do-Gooders

San Diegans don’t just like to ride their bicycles, but they also want to make a difference. Here are some events where you can ride your bicycle or support those who want to ride a bicycle and make a difference.

Jillian Ziska who works at Children’s Smiles, a non-profit organization, sent us the details of an upcoming ride that will be held on October 14th. Children’s Smiles works

to enrich the lives of children who have been physically or mentally abused or have survived a traumatic life event.  The proceeds of our fundraising events go to children ages 2-18 in San Diego who are victims in need of help and a self-confidence boost!  Our organization provides funding and sponsorships to enhance the mental, personal, physical and educational well-being of these children so they can take their first step in the right direction towards a bright future.

Children’s Smiles is hosting a “Biking for Self-Confidence” leisurely bike ride down Mount Soledad with a celebratory lunch to follow at La Jolla Coves including food, drinks, live music and entertainment and raffle prizes. The event is open to the public of all ages. Tickets are $40 and include a limo ride to the top of Mt. Soledad, the bike to get down, lunch and entertainment at the coves, 2 raffle tickets & much more!  Our goal is to have 75 people at the top of the mountain, each pledging to change a child’s life.

Another fellow rider and generally all-round great guy, Richard La China, will be riding 800 miles in 8 days with his girlfriend Heidi Amundson to raise funds for the Monarch School in San Diego. Their ride will start on November 16th and end on November 24th. The mission of the Monarch School is to educate students impacted by homelessness and to help them develop hope for a future with the necessary skills and experiences for personal success. The pair are expecting to raise $20,000 and could use your financial support to ensure they meet their goal. To learn more about La China and the work he does to introduce San Diegans to all manner of two wheeled pleasure, visit his website.
