…and even more wins:
- Successfully worked with the Community Budget Alliance to pass Council Policy 800-14 which establishes a “capital-planning process that ultimately leads to policy decisions that optimize the use of available resources for projects competing from the same fund source or multiple fund sources.”
- Narrowing travel lanes on Montezuma Road at Collwood Blvd. Photos of press event. Press coverage from: KPBSSan Diego Free, PressCBS 8, NBC 7, Fox 5, ABC 10, and CW 6.
- The full SANDAG board voted to approve $200 million for bike projects. Our members and supporters spent nearly a year organizing, speaking up at meetings to ensure this vote.
- Successfully advocated to have the San Diego City Council adopted the 2011 update to the 2002 Bicycle Master Plan with our recommend amendments.
- Lowered prioritization on Level of Service as a measure of congestion (and by inference, road capacity) on our streets.
- Received “Advocacy Organization of the Year” award from the Alliance for Biking and Walking, the national organization that unites state/province and local bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organizations
- Advocated for the city’s first road diet and buffered bike lane treatment. Press coverage from: KPBS.
- Initiated the long dormant discussion over the creation of the Bicycle Advisory Committee and ensured its passage at City Council.
- Worked with the City of San Diego to become a member of NACTO and adopt the Urban Bike Guide. These progressive bicycle infrastructure designs listed in the guide strongly contribute to both perceived and actual safety for the people riding on them.
- Successfully advocated to increase city funding for bikes from 0.1% of General Fund to 0.9% of General Fund to reflect existing bike mode share. Bike infrastructure, especially good quality bike infrastructure costs money and we’re going to advocate to increase funding in the City’s budget.
- Successfully advocated to fix three critical and dangerous blocks of Nimitz Boulevard.
- Successfully advocated to ensure construction of I-15 bike path
