New Bike Lanes on B Street

Yesterday a reader left a comment here that there were new bike lanes on B Street in the Golden Hill neighborhood. I rode over today and sure enough, there were some brand new bike lanes.

New B Street Bike Lanes that run from 25th to 30th Street

Today was Golden Hill’s trash pickup day as evidenced by the trash can placed in the bike lane. There were trash cans places all along B Street in the middle of the new bike lane creating a new obstacle course that made riding dangerous. If you’d like to make a complaint with the City’s Waste Management Department, please feel free to email them at trash@sandiego.gov. I’ve already filed a complaint and will post any feedback I receive from the city.

The new bike lane appears to have been painted on sometime yesterday and it is approximately five blocks long, extending from 25th to 30th Street.

This new bike lane is part of the larger 25th Street Renaissance Street Enhancement. This is part of an overall plan to improve the walkability of the 25th Street corridor and includes redesigning the street to improve pedestrian and bicycling access. According to the plan:

The Master Plan design will include improvements to the walkability of the 25th Street corridor. The related design elements will address the distinct character of this community focusing on enhancements to street circulation, sidewalks, intersection crossings, bike facilities, landscape enhancements, street trees, lighting, and other amentias within the City right-of-way.

Have you had a chance to ride on this (short) bike lane? What do you think?

UPDATE: The City’s Waste Management Department responded to my complaint mentioned above, “Thank you for reporting this matter to Environmental Services Department. We have forwarded your message to Mr. Menzore Brassfield who is the district supervisor.”
