BikeSD’s Second Year Focus: Community Outreach

In our second year of advocacy BikeSD will be focusing on outreach to all communities in San Diego by presenting at Community Planning Groups, organizing rides, offering education seminars, and facilitating bike clinics. Below are the details of our first bike clinic.

Transportation is an issue for everyone, but the cost of owning a car or scraping together bus fare can be inconceivable for the homeless population in San Diego. Looking for work can seem like an insurmountable feat without a reliable way to get around town. Bicycle ownership improves the lives of underserved residents because a bicycle is a machine that asserts dignity. To help ensure that our homeless community has functional bicycles to get around town, BikeSD will hold a free bicycle clinic on March 16th 9:30-1:30pm at the Alpha Project’s Neil Good Day Center in the East Village. Volunteer mechanics will provide tune-ups and minor repairs. This outreach project is a collaboration with the SDSU Bike Stand, Bikes Del Pueblo and Gears4Growth. To donate tubes, break pads, cables, or your time, email our volunteer Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator, Kate Crouthamel at kate@bikesd.org.
